“You’d tell me, do you think it’d be all right
If I could just crash here tonight
You can see I’m in no shape for driving
And anyway I’ve got no place to go”
“Hey Jealousy” Gin Blossoms
J– was a young kid who worked at the same company as me. He we teased him for being a virgin and he complained he never meets any girls. We told him he has to leave the house if he wants to get laid. Women aren’t going to come knocking on his door.
He was kinda shy but we talked him to coming out to the Electric Wave with us one Friday night. J– didn’t drink much but he got caught up in a little trouble riding the white horse. He was a good kid but it can find anyone.
We went upstairs and ordered drinks and stood at the bar. There was a woman who went there every weekend. She was a total Betty but she always danced alone, never drank and never talked to anyone. We were there for less time than it took to finish our first drink. She walked straight up to J–, threw her arms over his shoulders and started kissing him! This chubby, 23 year old, little boy looking kid. It’s not like he was the first new person to ever walk into the club. Sure, there were the regulars but there were hundreds of new faces every weekend. That’s why we frequented the place. Anyway, five minutes later they left!
The following Monday morning at work we all pressed him for the deets! He spoke under his breath as he told the story. She drove him to her place and they started going at it on the couch. He got up to go to the bathroom and while he was in there he did a blast. He went back to the couch and nodded off. When he woke up later she was gone so he went home.
We teased him relentlessly by singing the Gin Blossoms song because it fit the story. He quit the job at the end of the summer to get away from bad influences, cleaned up and went back to school. I hear he is doing very well now.
